Celebrating Science... round the year

Gujarat Science City celebrates scientific activities for students, teachers and the common visitors round the year.

All the programs intended to enliven the imagination, foster creativity and develop a spirit of inquiry, especially in young minds where visitors can discover the wonders of science and technology regardless of the social stratum, education or age group.

It also able to create and sustain a culture of learning that fosters the process of personal inquiry, experimentation, communication, understanding, and the sharing of values about our world.

Periodic visits to the Gujarat Science City would be made a part of the regular curriculum in the state and students would perform interactive science practical and participate in exploratory activities.

Science Popularization

The GujaratScienceCity has been organizing various activities by involving students, teachers and visitors as much as possible for making science simple, and interesting. The scientific and educational activities in the ScienceCity have been broadly categorized into five areas and have been described as follows.

Science Popularization Programmes: Celebrating Science!

Celebration of Important scientific event related days, science-week, etc and to involve as many as students, teachers, parents, common people as well as media and policy makers in different themes. This helps us to raise the local issues at global platform and vice versa.

Organization of training programmes and workshops for teachers, science communicators and science club members and coordinators

Organization of Vigyan Mela (Science Exhibition) and model making workshops, popular science lectures, scientific film festivals, popular science book exhibition, etc

Academic Programmes on Science and Math

Organization of talent nurture programmes in science and mathematics for teachers and students

Organization of Science and Math Olympiads for school students and teachers.

Meet the Scientist programme: Interacting with eminent scientist

Career counseling in Frontiers S&T for higher secondary students

Organization of Children Science Congress and short term training workshops in science communication.

Material Development

Development of activity modules on S & T Communication through Puppetry, Popular Science writing, illustration and journalism, organization of nature camps, Learning Mathematics through Origami, training module in hydroponics – fun with plants in soil less condition, model rocketry, telescope making, night sky observation, etc.

Design and development of theme based posters like, S&T for sustainable development, Water for Life, Save Our Sky, Atom for peace, etc., and theme based activity, exhibits write up, games and worksheets.

Development of standard reference library and interactive website

Training Student Volunteers

Involvement of student volunteers as interns and providing necessary training and guidance for professional development.

Skill enhancement of promising science writers and communicators

Exposures into different modules of science popularization activities.

Media Resource Centre

Design and develop necessary background materials as media kits on important scientific events and activities.

Arrange interviews of renowned scientists and technocrats.

Design and development of audio-visual CDs, multi-media presentations, theme based slide shows, etc

Contributing to weekly science column in local newspapers

Science Clubs and Science-Net

The GujaratScienceCity in association with the Vigyan Prasar, Department of Science & Technology, Govt of India, is in the process of starting the Science Club programmes in an organized manner through out the state with networking to weave all science clubs, societies, organizations. About 500 Science Clubs have been formed and renewed and the club members are oriented to undertake various scientific activities.

The data base of all participants of different programmes and activities in ScienceCity has been compiled to form a forum of Science Net, which will be useful in further dissemination of science and technology in a systematic manner.

Outreach programme:

Gujarat Science City regularly organizes different science popularization programmes in the different schools in the state and also visits many other parts of the country where the dissemination of science is not adequate. In addition, GCSC staff members also participated in various conferences and workshops in different parts of the state and country and share the experiences for the noble cause.
