LOCATION: Found throughout the tropical Indo-Pacific, from the Red Sea and East Africa to French Polynesia, and from southern Japan to Queensland, Australia.
HABITAT: It is a marine, reef-associated fish found in shallow coastal waters, coral reefs and rocky habitats. It commonly rests among rocks, coral and reef ledges.
SIZE: Maximum length: about 40 cm; common length: about 27 cm; maximum published weight: 2.4 kg.
DIET: Synanceia verrucosa is a carnivorous ambush predator that mainly feeds on fish and large marine invertebrates.
