HABITAT: Freshwater; demersal; rocky areas of Lake Malawi, from shallow sediment-free areas to deeper sediment-rich rocky habitats; depth about 6–28 m.

WEIGHT: Maximum reported length: 11.3 cm SL (male/unsexed). Reliable published weight is not available.
DIET: Loose organic material and algae-rich biocover (aufwuchs), plus plankton.
FOOD: Mainly feeds by scraping/combing material from the biocover on rocks; also consumes plankton from open water.
