COMMON NAME OF THE SPECIE: Jarbua Terapon / Crescent Perch / Crescent Grunter
LOCATION: Indo-Pacific: Red Sea and East Africa to Samoa; north to southern Japan and south to the Arafura Sea, Australia and Lord Howe Island.
HABITAT: Marine, brackish and freshwater environments. Commonly found over shallow sandy bottoms near river mouths, estuaries, rivers, intertidal areas and tidal pools.
SIZE: Common length about 25 cm SL; maximum recorded length 36 cm TL. No reliable species-specific weight range is reported.
DIET: Omnivorous; feeds on fishes, insects, algae and various small invertebrates.
FACT: It can live in both marine and freshwater environments. After spawning, the male guards and fans the eggs, and the species can produce sounds.
